NUNES, SCHOLEFIELD, DeLEON & CO.- THE HISTORY

In 1929, two young lawyers, Douglas Joseph Judah and Charles Harry Randall, joined forces to establish the firm, Judah & Randall. This was the beginning of a partnership that was to develop into one of Jamaica ’s outstanding law firms.

They were later joined by another young lawyer, Noel N. Nethersole, who was admitted to practice in 1931. He joined as a partner and the firm became known as Judah, Randall & Nethersole, carrying on practice at 11 Duke Street in Kingston . Noel Nethersole subsequently entered politics and became the country’s first Finance Minister under the premiership of Norman Washington Manley, who is one of Jamaica's National Heroes.

The law firm started by Judah & Randall was destined to achieve greatness with a succession of distinguished partners. Not far away, George Desnoes who was admitted to practice in 1930, joined up with Trevor Lyons to form Desnoes & Lyons, but not long after, Mr. Lyons retired from the firm to become the Registrar of the Supreme Court. The result was a merger in 1968 when the firm of Judah & Randall merged with Desnoes, Lyons & Lee. The current senior partner of Nunes,Scholefield, DeLeon & Co. ,Trevor DeLeon was at that time an associate of Desnoes Lyons & Lee and upon the merger he became a partner in the new firm of Judah Desnoes & Co. with offices at 4, Duke Street .

The firm continued to grow in stature, achieving an enviable reputation for the quality of service given to its clients. The 1970's saw a migration fever gripping the country, and lawyers were part of the exodus, so in 1978, there was a second merger this time with Lake, Nunes, Scholefield to form the firm of Judah, Desnoes, Lake, Nunes,Scholefield & Co. With the changes in partners due to death and retirement and with the introduction of new practitioners, the present firm of Nunes, Scholefield, DeLeon & Co. (NSD & CO) was formed in1985.

In 1996 the firm relocated to its present location at 6A Holborn Road in New Kingston. NSD & Co. with this strong tradition of excellence and a vibrant team of experienced attorneys has entered the 21st century with continued commitment to providing the highest quality of professional services for our growing list of valued clients. We look forward to meeting all your legal needs.
