Tavia is a Partner in our litigation department. Since being admitted to practice in 2000, she has gained experience in civil and commercial litigation in the Resident Magistrate’s court, the Supreme Court, the Court of Appeal and the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council. She manages debt collection portfolios for financial institutions and has otherwise acted in matters dealing with the insolvency or companies and/or individuals. Tavia also has a thriving family law practice and often acts in divorces, trust matters and complex real estate disputes.
Tavia obtained a Bachelor of Laws from the University of the West Indies and the Norman Manley Law School from which she obtained a Legal Education Certificate. She also holds a Masters of Law (Merit) in Corporate and Commercial Law from the University College London. During which she focused on laws dealing with credit, security and insolvency.
She is an adjunct lecturer in the Legal and Regulatory Framework for Business at the Mona School of Business and Management and a tutor in Civil Procedure and Practice II at the Norman Manley Law School. She is a member of the Jamaican Bar Association.
